DID YOU KNOW?

If you sell appreciated securities this year, you may lose up to 15% of your appreciation to taxes. If you contribute those securities to the YWCA, you may receive two tax benefits:

  • Avoid capital
    gains tax
  • Receive a full income tax deduction

Consider a Planned Gift to the YWCA of Boulder County

“One hundred years from now, no one will remember what house you lived in, what car you drove, maybe not even what you did for a living. What they will remember is the legacy you left for generations to come.”

You can make a lasting gift to benefit individuals and families throughout our community through a planned gift to the YWCA of Boulder County.

With an 80+ year history, you will have peace of mind knowing the YWCA will serve women, children and their families for both today and tomorrow.

Your planned gift may be earmarked for our Legacy Fund. This Fund will:

  • Ensure that the YWCA continues to meet the needs in our community and our mission

  • Projects the YWCA against unforeseen economic downturns and ensure our programs remain strong, even in changing and volatile economic environments.

  • Provides tangible support as the YWCA continues its 80+ year history of quick response to the changing needs of Boulder County

  • Provide funds for new programs and special projects as needs arise.

You can make a gift that will touch the lives of many for years to come. Also, as you leave money for your family, leaving money to your favorite charity may save money for your family be decreasing inheritance taxes. See your financial advisor for the options that best fit your situation.

Here are some ideas to consider:

Gifts of Appreciate Securities
Gifting appreciated securities that you have held/owned for more than one year offers tax advantages.

Bequests
A bequest is a gift made in your will or living trust. Bequests are free of federal and state estate taxes.

Here is sample language to consider.

"I give, devise, and bequeath to NAME OF CHARITY/LOCATION, the sum of $________(or a description of the specific asset), for the benefit of NAME OF CHARITY and its general purposes."

Specific Bequests are made when a particular item or property is bequeathed for a designated purpose. Specific bequest language:

"I give, devise, and bequeath to NAME OF CHARITY/LOCATION, the sum of $_______ (or a description of a specific asset), for the benefit of NAME OF CHARITY to be used for the following purpose: (state the purpose). If at any time in the judgment of the trustees of NAME OF CHARITY it is impossible or impracticable to carry out exactly the designated purpose, they shall determine an alternative purpose closest to the designated purpose."

Gifts of Life Insurance
Gifts of policies or proceeds you may no longer need offer excellent tax benefits.

Gifts of Real Estate
Before you sell real estate that would result in a sizable capital gains tax, consider donating property held more than one year. You avoid the tax and receive a charitable donation deduction for the full market value of the property.

Charitable Remainder Trust
These trusts are built with assets you contribute such as securities, appreciated real estate and cash. Once placed into the trust, these assets can be sold to avoid capital gains tax and the proceeds will then be reinvested to produce a higher yield or income stream for the donor.

Make a Lasting Gift

  • Seek out a professional. A face-to-face meeting with a good estate-planning attorney can ensure everything is done correctly according to your wishes.

  • Keep your documents current. An outdated will could create more problems than it solves. Review it every year.

  • Let someone else know. Be sure to keep your will in a safe place and let your loved ones know where to find it.

Important Information Regarding Tax-Free IRA Distributions until 12/31/07

  • If you are over the age of 70 1/2 with an Individual Retirement Account, you can exclude from your taxable gross income a distribution from your IRA of up to $100,000 to a qualified public charity, like the YWCA. Read the attached article to learn more.
