Volunteer Support Positions

We appreciate the important work accomplished by our volunteers. Without their help, our organization could not function. All Volunteer positions are unpaid. We can work with university and school programs to meet credit and service learning requirements.

EDGE - Bolder Girls Mentors
No. of Positions: 4 - 6

About the Program: After-school program for girls in grades 4-6. Class meets once a week for 12 weeks. Bolder Girls gives girls a chance to experience what it is like to be an investigative reporter. At the end of the program, the Bolder Girls Newspaper is published in the Daily Camera so girls can truly experience what it is like to become a published journalist.

Mentor Requirements: Female mentors, at least 18 years old. Must be able to attend all 12 classes as well as training before the program begins. Journalism and layout skills a plus, but not required. Time commitment is approximately 2.5 hours per week.

Mentor Responsibilities: Mentors will work with the girls as they learn about journalism and will act as editors to the girls. Mentors will assist the instructor in teaching such skills as reporting, editing and revision, layout, photography, and publishing. The mentors might also be asked to assist at a publishing party for the girls.

Reading to End Racism Volunteer Reader
No. of Positions: 1 per semester

About the Program: Reading to End Racism is not part of the YWCA of Boulder County, but shares office space in our building. This program goes into schools to read books to students that teach against racism. RER has the final say in recruiting interns to work with them.

Student requirements: Volunteer will have to go through the RER training program, and will need transportation to various school sites.

Student Responsibilities: Readers visit various school sites to read books to students. Volunteer might also assist with recruiting other volunteer readers, scheduling school visits, and other tasks as necessary.

Volunteer Responsibilities: Mow lawns, weed front flowerbeds and keep landscaping looking neat and well groomed.
