YWCA's EDGE Winter 2008 Programs for Girls

Bold Girls (Grades 2 – 4)
Thursdays, Feb. 14 - Mar. 20
4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Cost:  $59
Girls learn to value their own unique qualities through developing
a journal incorporating writing and art.

Bolder Girls (Grades: 4 – 6)
Wednesdays, Feb. 6 - Apr. 30
(no class on Mar. 26)
4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Cost:  $165
Through Bolder Girls, participants research and write an article on a
topic of importance to them with the assistance of caring mentors.
The class covers all aspects of journalism and newspaper production.
The final project includes an article published in the Daily Camera.

Boldest Girls   (Grades:  5 – 6 )
Thursdays, Feb. 7 - May 1

4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Cost: $165
The program teaches advanced writing skills and introduces elements of visual communication while girls learn about important social issues. The class includes the production of a web site and news magazine to showcase the participants’ reporting on topics addressing racial justice and environmental concerns.

Tech Tales for Girls (Grades: 3 – 5)
Tuesdays, Feb. 5 - Apr. 1
4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Cost:  $115
Give your story a new "spin." Instead of writing a story using paper and pencil, girls learn how to tell it using video, sound and animation.

Digital Diaries for Girls (Grades:  6 – 8)
Wednesdays, Feb. 14 - Mar. 20  
4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Cost: $115
Girls make their own movie magic while creating their own stories using poetry, lyrics, and creative writing. Writing will be combined with music and images to create a short movie. Girls will be introduced to Adobe Photoshop, Windows Movie Maker, Word and web browsing software, while they enhance their writing skills.
