CHILDREN'S ALLEY

For 40 years, Children’s Alley has served as Boulder County’s only drop-in childcare center with sliding scale fees.

We provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that encourages children’s social-emotional, physical, behavioral, and cognitive development. We serve children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old and offer extended hours including evenings and Saturdays. In addition, we accept CCAP payments.

Families turn to Children’s Alley when they have a sudden and temporary need for childcare, such as when their regular childcare provider is unavailable, when parents have a class, a job interview, doctor’s appointment, etc., when parents simply need a break from the stress of childcare

Toddler Room

Our toddler room is designed for children ages 12 months to 3 years and provides positive learning experiences that encourage the social, emotional, and intellectual development of our attendees. Playtime, music, art and outdoor play help active toddlers to enjoy their day at Children’s Alley as they develop during these essential, early years of their education. All lead teachers are trained in CPR/First Aid, Safe Sleep practices, and best practices (as recommended by the Colorado Office of Early Childhood) in toddler nutrition, health, safety, and physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. Additionally, the Toddler Classroom provides:

  • Nutritious morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner, including at least one fruit and/or vegetable, protein, grains, and Whole or 1% Milk (as recommended by the Child and Adult Food Care Program (CACFP)). Allergen sensitive foods and dairy alternatives are available as well.
  • A kid-friendly environment with learning materials aimed towards the toddler age-group’s specific developmental needs.
  • A peaceful and comfortable environment for afternoon nap beginning just after lunch. Nap mats with clean, sanitized sheets and blankets are available for each individual child.
  • A large, gated, and shady outdoor play area that includes many small ridable cars, a sandbox, and many guided movement activities with the teachers.

Preschool Program

Children’s Alley has an all-day Preschool Classroom which uses the Storybook Journey curriculum. This curriculum focuses on children's literature, poems, songs, rhymes, and the creativity of the children and staff. Storybook Journey provides a positive opportunity to address emotional challenges that typically begin to emerge in children ages 3-5 years old. All lead teachers are trained in CPR/First Aid, and best practices (as recommended by the Colorado Office of Early Childhood) in early childhood nutrition, health, safety, and physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. Additionally, the Preschool Classroom provides:

  • A number of spots are specifically reserved for children enrolled in the Colorado Preschool Program (CPP) through the Boulder Valley School District. This allows for a child to receive full-day preschool funded by the state of Colorado (provided families meet certain eligibility requirements). For more information about CPP please visit: http://ece.bvsd.org/CPP/Pages/default.aspx or call our front office at (303) 449-1951.
  • A small class size with no more than 12 children present daily. Any spots available in addition to CPP spots are drop-in and can be reserved daily by any Children’s Alley family.
  • A large, gated, and shady outdoor play area designed specifically for children ages 3-12. Activities guided by teachers are provided daily, as well as plenty of time for free play.

School-Age Children

We serve a wide range of ages and utilize thoughtful activities designed to foster learning for all children attending between ages 3 to 12 years old. For younger children, learning to take turns, sharing, encouraging intellectual curiosity, and promoting literacy are key focuses in the preschool room. For school-age children, our expert staff use age-appropriate activities to continue their educational experience in a safe, fun, stimulating environment. Children enjoy reading activities, art projects, music, exploring our fun fenced-in playground and much more.
