Michal Duffy, Education & Programs Coordinator at Out Boulder County will present an LGBTQ 101 Training
Michal (they/them) is queer and proud and dedicated to fostering safe spaces for people to learn and engage about gender and sexuality. It’s important to Michal to be a part of the conversation and movement around queer, trans, and LGBIA+ issues, to explore our intersectionalities within and around our communities, and to learn and teach all along the way. Michal first started organizing in the queer community during college as the VP of Education for the gay student group and co-founder of a trans oriented organization dedicated to deconstructing the gender binary through education, activism, and awareness-raising in the mountains of western North Carolina. With a background in Spanish and Philosophy and a Masters in Appropriate Technology and Environmental Design, they have worked for a few different community-focused organizations on sustainable food systems, waste reduction, and project development in North Carolina, Vermont, and now Colorado.
LGBTQ 101 - This presentation covers current LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) language, pronouns, and common allyship mistakes that you may have never realized. Michal will discuss the current best practices for supporting LGBTQ people in schools, workplaces, and families. They will educate attendees about how the different aspects of identity, including gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. Attendees do not need to have any prior knowledge of LGBTQ issues to attend. This session will prepare your business, school, or nonprofit to serve transgender clients/patrons, support transgender employees, and be up to date on providing services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer people.
