YWCA Community Champions 2017 Announced

January 25, 2017

YWCA Boulder County announced today that Angelique Espinoza, Kim Felton, and Sue Heilbronner will be honored as YWCA Community Champions at YWCA’s annual Cabaret Gala. The Cabaret Gala will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Glenn Miller Ballroom at the University of Colorado Boulder.

“Each spring, YWCA Boulder County hosts an annual fundraiser, the Cabaret Gala. At our event, we pay tribute to members of the Boulder County community who have made a positive difference for women and children,” said Amanda Piper, YWCA Boulder County CEO. “This distinguished group of individuals has helped to make Boulder County a better place for us all.”

Angelique Espinoza is a former Boulder City Council member, candidate for the Colorado State House of Representatives, and most recently the Campaign Manager for Healthy Boulder Kids, the group behind the successful ballot initiative to install a tax on soda and other sugary beverages. Espinoza’s commitment to the Boulder community also consists of extensive experience working with education and inclusivity organizations, including YWCA’s anti-discrimination program Reading to End Racism.

Kim Felton is the Senior Vice President of Retail Banking at Elevations Credit Union where she leads multiple teams across multiple markets, increasing access to Elevations’ products, programs, and services throughout the community. Felton has served on the Board of Directors for YWCA Boulder County and was President of the Board in 2007-2008. She demonstrates her commitment to the welfare of our community’s most vulnerable populations by volunteering with Meals on Wheels in Boulder, serving on the Board of Directors of the Elevations Foundation, and the YMCA of Boulder Valley.

Sue Heilbronner is the CEO and Co-Founder of MergeLane, an investment fund and accelerator targeting companies with at least one woman in leadership. Heilbronner has been a CEO, president, and chief marketing officer for digital companies since the earliest days of the Internet. She began her career as an attorney – last as a federal prosecutor with the US DOJ Civil Rights Division. From there, she transitioned to business, leading companies in the interactive travel, digital publishing, ecommerce, and online education sectors. Heilbronner serves as a mentor for the Techstars Accelerator and an adjunct professor of law and entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado Law School.
