Y We’re Grateful: Voices from Those Who Benefit from YWCA Boulder County

At YWCA Boulder County, the true impact of our programs comes alive through the voices of those we serve. This season, we’re celebrating gratitude by sharing their experiences and the moments that remind us why this work matters and why we are grateful for our supporters who make these programs possible.

Empowering Families Through Persimmon Early Learning

When Lissett first visited Persimmon Early Learning (PEL), she was searching for a place she could trust with her daughter, Sofia.

“As soon as I came to YWCA, I saw that security. I thought, ‘Wow, Sofia is going to be in very good hands.”

Since then, Sofia has flourished, gaining confidence and independence. For Lissett, that growth brings freedom and stability:

“Without the YWCA, we wouldn’t be able to work. This support has helped me grow in my career. I feel secure knowing Sofia is cared for and learning.”

For Tarah, returning to work after maternity leave was stressful until she found Persimmon.

“You hope strangers will care for your child like you would  and at Persimmon, they do.”

Within weeks, her son Barrett was thriving. Attentive teachers, personalized nutrition, and thoughtful care gave her peace of mind.

“Having my son here means I can continue mentoring women and people of color in my field. It’s peace of mind. It’s community. It’s everything.”

STEM E3: Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators

STEM E3 engages girls of color, from sixth grade through college, in hands-on STEM projects and inspiring conversations with industry leaders.

For students, it opens doors to new possibilities:

“I got to think more about my future and possibilities,” shared one participant.”

Parents notice the impact too:

“My daughter leaves every Jam Session inspired, with new dreams unlocked. Seeing women of color in powerful roles helps her believe her own dreams are possible.”

For these students, STEM E3 fosters confidence, curiosity, and new opportunities.

Reading to End Racism: Building Empathy Through Stories

Through Reading to End Racism (RER), students engage with books and personal stories that explore fairness, empathy, and standing up for others.

Teachers notice the transformation:

“I’ve never seen this group of students so engaged,” - 4th grade teacher

Students leave empowered to act:

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a kid you can still help end racism,” - 5th grade student.

“I learned how to be an ally and make the world a better place,” - 2nd grade student

Families are grateful to see their children curious, compassionate, and confident.RER shows that even small acts of understanding can create lasting change.

Young Women+ Achievement: Empowerment Through Mentorship

Young Women+ Achievement (YW+A) offers high school students of color mentorship, guidance, and a community of support.

For many, the program offers a sense of belonging:

“I honestly can’t think of where I would be now without the support I’ve received, from my mentors, this program, and my peers. It would be hard to imagine myself without it.”

Others find doors opening that once felt out of reach:

"As an immigrant student, I wasn’t sure I had the same opportunities as others. YW+A has empowered me, opened my eyes to college, and shown me what’s possible."

YW+A helps students feel seen, empowered, and ready to step confidently into their future.

Gratitude in Action

Across all programs, participants express gratitude not only for the support, guidance, and opportunities YWCA Boulder County provides, but also for the community of supporters who make it all possible. Each story is a reminder that when we lift one person up, we strengthen an entire community.
