Our Better Because of Her Luncheon celebrates the incredible women and allies in our community and our lives.

Thank you to everyone who came to this year’s Better Because of Her luncheon where we celebrated the power of uplifting one another, creating a vibrant mosaic of strength and gratitude —while recognizing three inspiring leaders making a lasting impact.

Better Because of Her Award: Jessica Acosta
A first-generation Mexican-American changemaker, Jessica is an equity-driven leader in construction, technology, and environmental justice whose work has elevated over 100 Latinx founders and influenced statewide policy. Her journey reflects resilience, innovation, and community support, establishing her as a pioneer dedicated to meaningful change.

Energizing the Future Award: Lupita Ortiz
A recent graduate of CU Boulder and recipient of the prestigious Center for Leadership Award, Lupita is recognized as a rising leader committed to civic engagement, equity and mentorship. During her time at CU, she championed college-readiness programs for young Latinas, organized Women's Empowerment Day and amplified BIPOC voices in environmental strategy as an Equity Fellow.

Active Ally Award: Dr. Ajume Wingo
A renowned philosopher and CU Boulder professor, Dr. Wingo is celebrated for his global work on justice, gender equity, and peace, notably through co-founding PridePads Africa and Pathfinders4Peace. As a descendant of Queen Ngonnso, he blends traditional leadership with modern democracy, earning the 2024 Thomas Jefferson Award for his scholarship and service.
