Growing Gardens Farm: A Day of Discovery on the Bus and in the Soil
Here at Persimmon Early Learning, our most recent field trip took us somewhere truly special, Growing Gardens Farm! The children hopped aboard an RTD bus for the journey, arriving at the farm around 10:15 AM, buzzing with curiosity and ready to explore.
The day centered around an exciting hands-on lesson: Plants and Their Edible Parts. From roots to leaves to fruits and seeds, the children got up close and personal with the plants around them, observing, touching, and discovering how much of what we eat actually grows right from the earth. It was the kind of learning that happens outside of the classroom, learning that is felt, smelled, and seen with your own eyes.
Speaking of eyes, one of the day's most memorable moments came courtesy of some very important underground helpers: worms! The children learned all about the vital role worms play in keeping soil healthy and plants thriving. It made quite an impression. One parent shared that after returning home, their daughter lit up and announced, "I had so much fun and learned that worms have no eyes!"
And that, right there, is the magic of a field trip.
This visit to Growing Gardens is just one of many adventures our class has taken this year, following trips to the Boulder Public Library, Barker Park, the Museum of Boulder, and the Evert Pierson Kids' Fishing Pond. Each outing has brought new discoveries, and we can't wait to share what's still to come!
