Business Technology Captivates 6-8 Graders

YWCA Boulder County’s STEM E3 program held a Business Technology Workshop at CU Boulder’s Innovation Station. From coding, to “Shark Tank,” to a special Q&A panel with senior executives from Comcast, these 30 middle schoolers from across Boulder County did it all this past Saturday!

This event brought our community together with activities designed and led by wonderful CU student volunteers. The participants learned how to put code blocks together on websites such as Code Moji, Scratch MIT, and Code.org. In the fun “Shark Tank” activity, the middle schoolers collaborated to come up with innovative products such as a clean water filter run by solar panels and a campus cleaning robot. YWCA “Sharks” gave feedback and encouraged the students to consider cost and investment.

Thank you to Rachel Solomon, Ph.D., Sally Huriaux, and Bryan Thomas from Comcast for sharing your amazing journeys and providing our students with inspiration and insight into the world of business technology.  Thank you to Comcast for your generous donation of laptops.

A parent summed up the success of the day: “This was awesome - now my child wants to go to college!”
